Prayer times
The times are different from my mosque
Mosques use different calculation methods. In Settings → Prayer times, choose the Calculation method your mosque uses, and set Asr time to Hanafi or Shafi‘i, Maliki, Hanbali. Amal picks a sensible default for your region automatically.
The times are for the wrong city
Go to Settings → Location, then search for your city or tap Use my current location. Times are shown on your city’s own clock.
The Hijri date is one day off
Some countries follow local moon sighting. Use Settings → Hijri date adjustment to move it by a day or two.
Notifications
I don’t get prayer notifications
Allow notifications for Amal in your phone’s settings. On iPhone, check that a Focus mode isn’t silencing them. On Android, allow Alarms & reminders for Amal so they arrive on time, and turn off battery optimisation for Amal. Open Amal once in a while: it refreshes the next days of reminders each time.
How do I check my reminders are set?
In Settings → Notifications the first line shows your next reminder and how many are set.
Qibla
The compass seems wrong
Hold the phone flat, away from metal, magnets and speakers. If Amal says the compass needs calibrating, move the phone in a figure-8 a few times. The direction also needs your city, so make sure it’s set.
Streaks and friends
What keeps my lantern lit?
All five prayers, on time or made up, plus your Quran pages for the day. If you can’t pray because of travel, illness or your period, tap Can’t pray today? on the Today screen: your streak stays lit and only you see why.
I missed a prayer yesterday
Make it up, then switch the Salah card to Yesterday and mark it. Your streak stays lit.
How do I add a friend?
Open Friends, tap Turn on friends, then Invite a friend to send your link. Your friend can also type your 6-letter code in their Friends tab. Your shared lantern grows on days you both finish.
What do friends see?
Your name, whether today is done, and your streaks. Never which prayers you prayed, your Quran pages or your location.
Supporter
I bought Supporter but the extras are locked
Open You → Support Amal and tap Restore purchase. Use the same Apple or Google account you bought it with.
Your data
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Turn off friends and delete my account deletes everything on our server. Settings → Erase all my data also clears your phone. See the privacy policy.
